EverEdge is very easy to bend or flex to form any angle or curve. The lengths are simply held at each end and pushed towards each other by hand to form the curves. When forming a sweeping curve out of a number of EverEdge lengths it is useful to join a few lengths together, flex them in to shape and then sit them in the ground a few millimetres and move them until the required shape has been achieved and then hammer them fully into position.

Angles can be formed by either bending the piece over any right angle (edge of a table, work bench, etc) or placing a piece of timber over the top and pulling the length up. Once an angle has been started the length of  EverEdge can be further bent by hand to any angle. Angles can only be formed at any place along the length of each piece of EverEdge and not at the ends where the two pieces overlap to form the join.

We are often asked if the EverEdge powder coating will be damaged by whipper snipping. The answer – NOT AT ALL! We have conducted extensive tests including holding the whipper snipper against a piece of EverEdge until the nylon cutting thread was completely worn out and there still wasn’t a mark on the length of EverEdge. Because the powder coating is baked on at such a high temperature (200 degrees) it is incredibly resilient and can easily withstand being hit by the nylon cutter of a whipper snipper. We must quickly add that it will, however, be marked by a whipper snipper with either a wire or other metal cutter.

We do generally recommend that EverEdge is installed with the top of the edging at the bottom of the blade of grass (so where the lawn meets either a garden bed or path the lawn is higher). This means that the edge can be mown over and there is no need for whipper snipping. However, in some cases this is not possible and the whipper snipper does do a great job of keeping a neat lawn right up to the edge. So keep going! You won’t damage your EverEdge at all.

Cutting EverEdge is possible with either a grinder or a hacksaw, however, we do not recommend that you do this. Not only will you expose the galvanised and powder coated edging to oxygen and thus compromise the galvanisation, but you will also create a very sharp edge. The best way to lose any extra edging is to either overlap it behind another piece, or if you are not returning to your starting point bend and lose the extra along the wall, bank, fence or flower bed. This will also add extra strength to the end of your edging project.

When Choosing EverEdge consider that it is available in metre lengths in different depths and finishes. The galvanised and powder coated finish is available in four different depths, 75mm (colours are black, brown and silver), 100mm (colours are black and brown), 125mm (colours are black and brown) and 150mm (colour is black). EverEdge in the Cor-Ten (rust) finish is available in the 100mm, 125mm  and 150mm depths.

The galvanised and powder coated colours in black and brown are designed to be unobtrusive and give the impression that the soil is holding a nice neat edge. The Cor-Ten Steel makes more of a feature of the garden edges.

Generally the 75mm depth is ideal for edging paths or driveways (where no grass is involved) whilst the 100mm, 125mm and 150mm depths are used for edging lawns and flower beds to ensure the soil and mulch stays in and grass runners stay out. With most Australian lawns being created with grasses that send out runners (couch, kikuyu, buffalo, etc) it is very important to create an underground barrier to control the spread of the lawn into paths or beds. When about 30mm of the actual edge as well as the spikes is hammered into the ground this creates an underground barrier that will stop at least 80% of the runners (nothing will stop the few determined ones that go metres deep and cross under roads but at least they can be easily spotted and weeded or sprayed out). The 100mm, 125mm and 150mm depths should therefore be used where control of grass runners is required.

Controlling grass runners is a daily problem in most Australian gardens. EverEdge is very effective in preventing grass runners from spreading into parts of the garden where they are not welcome.

Most of the lawns in Australia are either Buffalo, Kikuyu or Couch. These grasses are perfect for the Australian climate, they are drought tolerant, hardy and repair well. However, their enthusiastic grass runners can invade beds, paths and driveways.

The runners can be effectively controlled with an above and below ground barrier. When installing EverEdge if 30mm of the actual edge as well as the spikes is hammered into the ground this forms an underground barrier that will stop 80% of the runners. Unfortunately nothing will stop the few runners that go metres deep and cross under roads but with the majority controlled its easy to weed out the odd few that cross over.

We recommend using either the 100mm, 125mm or 150mm depths when edging lawns with grass runners. In that way with 30mm underground it still leaves a significant depth of the edge above the ground to hold in the soil or mulch.
